It’s the sensible selection from Moyes even if he’s ‘sacrificing’ this game somewhat. Just hope nowt happens to Dawson in particular or any of the key players for Thursday.

You were saying daveyg, didn't expect some of the others though! But can agree with those who argue we can't afford to pick up more injuries to key players ahead of Thursday.

Against my better judgement
Fabianski
Coufal Johnson Dawson Cresswell Masuaku
Soucek Rice
Bowen Antonio Fornals
Would prefer to see Areola in goal and Lanzini rather than Masuaku but the latter is left sided and did score an ''amazing'' winner at the London Stadium!
Goes without saying we need to play an attacking game and force some errors but .....? (and yes I have always been against masuaku playing but needs must and we have a massive match on Thursday)

I really hope not. Rice will be wasted in that right of a back 3. He definetly won't be able to influence the game there as much.

What if West Ham win the Europa League?
By winning the Europa League, West Ham will earn a place in the Champions League group stage, and will be one of the eight top seeds in the draw.
How that affects European places in the Premier League depends purely on where they finish.
There are three overriding principles: - The winners of a European competition have the automatic right to European football the following season. - A team has the right to play in the highest-ranked competition they qualify for. - Another Premier League team cannot be affected by another's success in Europe.
There are a few caveats, but they won't apply this season, so we'll keep things simple and avoid those.
So we know that if West Ham win the Europa League: - They are guaranteed to play in the Champions League wherever they finish in the Premier League - Eighth in the Premier League cannot qualify for Europe as a result of this
If West Ham finish fourth, it has a similar effect to Liverpool or Man City winning the Champions League, in that the place for the Europa League titleholder is vacant and qualifying rounds are rebalanced. The difference is that the third-placed team in France will be promoted direct to the Champions League group stage.
If West Ham finish in any other European position in the league (fifth, sixth or seventh), the Premier League effectively loses a place in that competition. The slot is left vacant and the qualifying rounds are rebalanced.
So, if West Ham finish fifth or sixth, there will be only one team in the Europa League: Champions League: 1, 2, 3, 4, West Ham Europa League: 5 or 6 only Europa Conference League: 7
If West Ham finish seventh, their current league position, there will be no English team in the Europa Conference League: Champions League: 1, 2, 3, 4, West Ham Europa League: 5, 6 Europa Conference League: -
This happened in Spain last season, when Villarreal won the Europa League and finished seventh, meaning LaLiga had no representative in the inaugural season of the Europa Conference League.
If West Ham finish lower than seventh, they will take their place in Europe as titleholders but the top seven will be affected -- there would be eight Premier League teams in Europe: Champions League: 1, 2, 3, 4, West Ham Europa League: 5, 6 Europa Conference League: 7

Re: Team for Chelsea

the thing I've noticed with Moyes is that he believes game time improves players. He also believes it improves their fitness.
So its all quite contrary to the whole "rotation" philosophy that the big teams have been trying to do for the last 20/30yrs.
The downside with this is that you cant bed in youngsters if you are trying to get the best out of your senior squad. So we don't have youth cover.
As we saw with NGakia, these u-23s can do well when they have to. But if you dont get the constant run of games you cant improve at this level. If he would have stayed with us he would probably be a 1st choice right back. He would have got the experience necessary.
Also, Rice would never have made it in any other team than West Ham as we gave him the run of games that built him.
Without the games you just can't be the best you can. Catch 22 really.

Overtaking Man U to get 6th v’s 3 games to win the Europa. It’s a very difficult choice for Moyes. I cannot see any ‘resting’ of players, not unless we make the Europa final and by that time 6th is out of the question. Yea he should have invested in more players. But the CB problem now is actually an area we had fair cover for but have been very unlucky with the timing of the injuries. I can’t see us getting a lot out of Chelsea though I’d be happy with a draw particularly if Arse smash Munure today.

Manuel Yes I know but Moyes has many chances to see if Alese can make it with some minutes. I watched the U23's last against Fulham, they were poor but I don't rate this Mark Robson as a coach . Since Dimitji Halajko left the team have not been as dynamic . They looked tired and couldn't muster any real chances,Fulham were organised and up for it. The one player who did look decent was Alese,he does glide around the pitch and his distribution if very good ,he comes out well with ball. He was better than Ashby and Longelo. I also listened to Hammers chat and they all agreed that after having a very succesfull 12 months why would you hang around when the first XI need players yet the boss won't use you ?

Yep, personally I would leave Dawson out of this one, but reading between the lines in Moyes presser it will be full strength as usual.

Re: Team for Chelsea

I hope Moyes doesn't put Rice as a CB and uses Johnson. I think he needs to play the defense he will use in Frankfurt as a test and so they get experience playing together. Attacking midfield if anyone needs a rest, then bring in Benrahma, but probably just keep it the same as Burnley.
Fabianski Coufal Dawson Johnson Cresswell Soucek Rice Bowen Lanzini Fornals Antonio
⚒️ poor effort, you need to try harder.

I thought Moyes would look to Johnson but his comments at the pre game press Conf suggested he would indeed go with Rice at CB?
We will know soon enough I guess.
